At dinner with friends, Joe opens up his fortune cookie and discovers a shocking message that leads all of them to think about the meaning of life. While his BFF, Tom, tries to reassure him, the other friends explain their views, which correspond to their characters. Karim, an existentialist, thinks Joe has to embrace death. Rachel, a strong believer in God, urges Joe to be reconciled with God. Bert, an epicurean, believes Joe should ‘live it up’ and enjoy every bit of life. Lastly, Maya expresses scepticism that Joe can know the future and thinks that Joe should always just keep doing whatever he’s doing now. Joe becomes immobilised in deciding how he’s going to face the ending of his life.
